Anyone who dives into the Big/Fast Data world and deals with data there might have been annoyed more than once by the fact that it is sometimes really complicated to develop simple data flows to transform, convert or even just store data. This is especially true for real-time “Fast Data” processing in data streams.
A very useful solution for this is the Streamsets Data Collector. It provides an open source platform for data ingestion that offers many features to easily and visually process complex data in the Big Data world.
It doesn’t matter if you have ETL knowledge, because Streamsets allows you to draw the data flows without the need to code. It offers the flexible approach to extract data from various sources via so-called pipelines, to process it further and to save it in any format. It does not care which technologies are tapped, the portfolio ranges from databases to Kafka to Rest-API calls, web services, XML, JSON and text files.
Streamsets is rounded off by the possibility to complement parts of the solutions via programming language at any time, even automation tasks can be accomplished in an unagitated way. For this purpose Groovy, Jython, but also JavaScript and “normal” Java can be used.
Streamsets is the environment for integrating fresh data into existing data pools in a timely and flexible manner. Basically it is a data ingestion tool with extended functionalities for the “new” Big & Fast Data world.
